Where to Buy a Onewheel: New, Open-Box or Used?

If you're ready to buy a Onewheel, you have a few different options: buy new, save some money with an open-box board, or look for a used Onewheel.

I've been selling and renting Onewheels through SUPrents since 2017, and I've talked with a lot of riders trying to figure out which route makes the most sense. There isn't one right answer for everyone.

Here's what I'd consider before buying.

Where Can You Buy a Onewheel?

There are generally three ways to buy a Onewheel:

Buy new if you want a brand-new board, full manufacturer warranty and the least uncertainty.

Buy open-box if you're looking to save money while still getting a board that's essentially new.

Buy used if getting the lowest possible price matters most and you're comfortable with a board that has already been ridden.

At SUPrents, we sell all three. Our used inventory tends to be limited, but we also offer discounted open-box Onewheels.

Buying a New Onewheel

For a lot of riders, especially first-time Onewheel owners, buying new is the simplest option.

You know exactly what you're getting, you receive the full manufacturer warranty, and you don't have to wonder how the board was treated by a previous owner.

If you love it, keep it and there's nothing else you need to do.

Worst case you find out it’s not for you and instead of being out the full price of the board, you’re out the demo fee. Hopefully you still had some fun during the 7-days. If that’s the case, contact us during your demo period and we'll send you a prepaid UPS return label. A model-specific demo fee and any other applicable charges are deducted from your refund.

For someone spending $1,000–$3,500+ on a Onewheel, it’s nice to actually ride a board, before being fully committed.

Buying an Open-Box Onewheel

This is one of the options I recommend most to people looking to buy a Onewheel, but also looking to save a few bucks.

SUPrents open-box Onewheels have less than one mile, include the full manufacturer warranty, and are priced below our new boards. They are boards that have generally been displayed or used for taking photos.

There's one important difference: open-box Onewheels are final sale and do not include our 7-Day Demo.

I recommend the open-box option for someone who already knows which Onewheel they want and would rather take the savings than have the flexibility of the demo.

Buying a Used Onewheel

A used Onewheel can be another way to save, but there's more to consider.

Mileage is only part of the story. I'd also want to know how the board was ridden, how it was stored, whether it has been exposed to water, what condition the tire and footpads are in, and whether it has been modified or repaired.

The other major consideration is warranty.

Unlike our new and open-box Onewheels, used Onewheels sold by SUPrents do not include a manufacturer warranty.

That doesn't automatically make buying used a bad idea. A well-cared-for used board at the right price can be a great purchase. You just need to understand that you're accepting more uncertainty in exchange for the lower price.

Our used inventory is usually pretty limited, but when we have one available, you'll find it alongside our open-box inventory.

Don't Forget About Shipping and Sales Tax

The advertised price isn't always the final amount you'll pay.

The lineup covers a pretty wide range now. Some riders want something smaller and easier to carry. Others want range, trail capability, speed or maximum performance.

Onewheel Pint X vs. Pint S: Which One Should You Buy?

If you've narrowed your Onewheel search down to the Pint X and Pint S, you're already looking at two very capable boards.

Both are compact, easy to carry, have a 20 mph top speed and offer 12–18 miles of range. But there is an important difference between them: the Pint S is built to be a little more capable when the pavement ends.

So which one should you buy?

It really comes down to where you ride and what kind of ride you want.

Here's how the two compare.

Pint X vs. Pint S: The Quick Answer

If you want a simple answer:

Choose the Pint X if:
You primarily ride pavement, sidewalks, bike paths and around town, and you want a nimble, compact Onewheel.

Choose the Pint S if:
You want that same compact Pint platform but plan to ride more dirt, gravel and trails—or you simply want the upgraded tire and footpads.

The two boards share a lot of the same basic specifications, but the Pint S adds some meaningful upgrades.

Both boards are rated at 20 mph and 12–18 miles of range. The biggest hardware differences are the Pint S's Performance Treaded tire, larger flared footpads and Maghandle Pro.

Onewheel Pint X: Simple, Nimble and Fun

The Pint X is a great choice if most of your riding happens on pavement.

It's compact, relatively lightweight and has the kind of nimble ride that makes the Pint platform so much fun to carve around on.

The Pint X comes with a slick tire, which is particularly well suited to pavement and smooth surfaces. That doesn't mean you can't take it on dirt or trails—the Pint X can certainly handle some off-road riding—but its setup leans more toward cruising and carving.

The Pint X makes sense if you:

• Primarily ride pavement

• Commute or cruise around town

• Ride bike paths and sidewalks

• Like carving and a nimble feel

• Want something compact and easy to carry

• Don't spend a lot of time on rough trails

One of the biggest advantages of the Pint X is that it doesn't feel like you're carrying around a huge board when you're not riding it.

If you're throwing your Onewheel in the car, carrying it into work or taking it with you on an adventure, that smaller footprint can be a real advantage.

Onewheel Pint S: Same Pint Size, More Capability

The Pint S takes the compact Pint platform and adds some upgrades aimed at making it more capable.

The biggest difference you'll notice is the Performance Treaded tire.

That tread gives the Pint S more traction on dirt, gravel and uneven terrain, making it a better fit for riders who don't want to stay on pavement all the time.

The Pint S also comes with flared footpads that provide a 15% larger footprint, along with the Maghandle Pro. Those larger footpads give you more room for your feet and more leverage over the board.

The Pint S makes sense if you:

• Ride both pavement and trails

• Want more traction off-road

• Prefer a treaded tire

• Want larger footpads

• Have bigger feet or want more room to move

• Want a more planted feel

• Still want the portability of the Pint platform

The Pint S isn't dramatically bigger or heavier than the Pint X. In fact, both are listed at 27 pounds, with the same 20 mph top speed and 12–18 mile claimed range.

That's what makes the Pint S interesting: you get more capability without moving up to a much larger board.

Pint X vs. Pint S: The Tire Difference

This is probably the biggest factor to consider.

Pint X: Slick Tire

The Pint X comes with a slick tire.

Slick tires are great for:

• Asphalt

• Sidewalks

• Bike paths

• Smooth surfaces

• Carving

The ride tends to feel smooth and nimble, which is part of what makes the Pint X so fun around town.

Pint S: Performance Treaded Tire

The Pint S comes with a Performance Treaded tire.

The tread is designed to provide more traction when you're riding on:

• Dirt

• Gravel

• Trails

• Grass

• Loose or uneven surfaces

That doesn't mean the Pint S isn't good on pavement. It is. But if you know you're going to spend a decent amount of time off-road, the treaded tire gives the Pint S an advantage.

Neither tire is universally better.

It's really about where you're going to ride.

What About the Footpads?

The footpads are another meaningful difference.

The Pint S comes with flared footpads that are 15% larger than the standard Pint footpads. The additional surface area gives your feet more room and provides more leverage and control.

For some riders, especially riders with larger feet, this can make a noticeable difference in comfort.

The Pint X uses the standard Pint footpads.

If you've never ridden a Onewheel before, you may not know whether you'll prefer one setup over the other. But if you've ridden a Pint before and wished you had a little more room under your feet, the Pint S is worth a look.

Which One Has Better Range?

They're essentially the same.

Future Motion lists both the Pint X and Pint S with a claimed range of 12–18 miles.

Real-world range will vary depending on things like:

• Rider weight

• Riding speed

• Terrain

• Tire pressure

• Temperature

• Hills

• Riding style

So don't expect to ride exactly 18 miles every time you charge the board.

If you're looking for significantly more range, that's where you start looking at something like the XR Classic or GT rather than choosing between the Pint X and Pint S.

Which One Is Better for Trails?

If trails are going to be a regular part of your riding, the Pint S is the more natural choice of the two.

The Performance Treaded tire gives it more traction, and the flared footpads give you more room and leverage.

That doesn't mean the Pint X can't go off-road. It absolutely can.

But if you're buying a board specifically because you want to explore dirt roads, gravel, trails and other uneven terrain, the Pint S's setup makes more sense.

And if you're planning on doing a lot of serious trail riding, you may want to jump up another level and look at the XR Classic, GT S-Series or Rally XL.

That's one of the questions we hear a lot at SUPrents:

"How much trail riding am I actually going to do?"

If the answer is occasionally, the Pint X may be all you need.

If the answer is pretty often, we'd take a serious look at the Pint S.

Which One Is Better for Beginners?

Both can work well for a new rider.

If you're completely new to Onewheels, don't feel like you need to buy the most expensive board available. The Pint platform is compact and approachable, and both the Pint X and Pint S give you plenty of room to learn.

The bigger question is what kind of riding you expect to do after you've learned the basics.

If you're mostly going to cruise around the neighborhood, the Pint X makes a lot of sense.

If you're already dreaming about riding trails and exploring beyond pavement, the Pint S gives you more room to grow.

And whichever one you choose, give yourself some time to learn.

Find somewhere open, flat and forgiving. A grassy field can be a great place to get comfortable with accelerating, turning, slowing down and dismounting.

And learn how to stop before you worry about going fast.

So... Pint X or Pint S?

Get the Pint X if you...

Get the Pint S if you...

At the end of the day, the Pint X and Pint S aren't really competing for the exact same rider.

The Pint X is a great fit for someone who wants a compact, fun, pavement-friendly Onewheel.

The Pint S takes that same basic idea and makes it more capable for riders who want to venture off the pavement.
