You’ve no doubt seen them cruising through town. They’re sleek, speedy and outrageously fun. Electric skateboards have soared in popularity in recent years, and no one offers a more beautiful ride than Onewheel.
Onewheel revolutionized the electric skateboard industry when it debuted its single wheel snowboard-inspired design. Fans of traditional skateboarding embraced Onewheel because of its alternative ride style and powerful components that make it easy to conquer any terrain.
While Onewheel has made strides in making its products more affordable for the everyday skateboard enthusiast, they’re still a significant investment that you should carefully consider before purchasing outright. We’ll walk you through some of the “extra” costs you may not have considered and show you how you can save money on a Onewheel Pint or Onewheel GT.
The price difference between a Onewheel XR and Onewheel Pint
Onewheel offers two models: Pint and XR. As the name suggests, Onewheel Pint is a smaller and more nimble unit whereas the XR is larger and comes with an improved capacity to cut through any terrain.
Future Motion (the makers of Onewheel) retail the Pint starting at $950. The XR starts at $1,799. There are additional costs for accessories, extra chargers and custom add-ons.
Your first instinct might be to assume that the Onewheel Pint is the best deal because of its drastically lower price when compared to the XR, and if price is your only concern, that may be a valid assessment. But wait!
Before you commit to a purchase, you should understand there are some key differences between the XR and Pint, and you’ll need to choose a model based on your riding style, budget, and where you ultimately want to ride.
We’ve put together a comprehensive guide comparing the Onewheel Pint vs. Onewheel GT.
If you’re looking for the quick overview of each model, here are the basics:
Speed
Pint: 16mph
XR: 19mph
Range
Pint: 6-8 miles
XR: 12-18 miles
Weight Limit
Both models support a max weight of 275 lbs
But wait: there’s more! While these are all important factors to keep in mind before you make your purchase, there are a few other key things you need to consider before you cruise off into the sunset.
Gear and accessories you’ll need to ride your Onewheel safely
First time riders might be surprised at just how much power is packed in a Onewheel. Their smooth maneuverability and quick “get up and go” speed capacity can catch you off guard. That’s why you need to make sure you buy the right protective gear before you climb aboard.
We recommend investing in:
-
A helmet
-
Knee pads
-
Elbow pads
Depending on your preference in brands you can expect protective gear to run an additional $150+.
We can’t stress this enough: you need the protective gear! Even the most skilled riders have wiped out on their Onewheel. Play it safe and keep yourself protected.
Save on the cost of a Onewheel with a “try before you buy” demo program
Take a breath–we know the cost is stacking up. But there’s a more affordable way to access a Onewheel without needing to commit to the purchase. A “try before you buy” demo program allows you to rent a Onewheel Pint or XR to see if it’s right for you.
Here’s how our Onewheel demo program works:
1. Choose from a Onewheel Pint or Onewheel GT
2. Pick a demo/rental duration (3, 5, 7 or 10 days)
3. Pay a deposit (the cost of the Onewheel + the cost of the rental/demo period)
4. We ship your Onewheel anywhere in the US. We can even ship to your vacation rental or hotel if you’re on vacation!
5. Enjoy your ride!
If you love it, you keep it and we’ll pocket your deposit. If you decide Onewheel isn’t right for you, send it back using prepaid shipping and we’ll refund your deposit. You’ll only pay for the duration of the demo/rental.
Easy, hassle-free and no strings attached. It’s the most convenient and cost effective way to get the true Onewheel experience.
